I recently came across the idea of a fall vision board. I love vision boards, but I never considered making one for fall.
Of course, I jumped right in. Fall is, after all, right around the corner.
I am pretty happy with mine, and it helped me create some short term goals. Me, being me, wasn't just happy with the actual vision board. I needed some inspiration to help me.
Defining a Vision Board
What is a Vision Board, you might be thinking? I remember when I was a kid making collages using pictures from magazines. I would gather up some poster board, scissors, markers and those magazines On it, I put places I wanted to go, things I wanted, like a Walkman (dating myself here), and who I thought I might marry. Rob Lowe was always front and center.
Making those collages were me making a vision board, I just didn't realize it at the time. Back then I just did it for fun.
Now that I understand what a vision board is, my thoughts have changed about them a bit. I still love making vision boards, but they serve a different function for me.
For me, a vision board is a way to stay motivated while I am working towards my goals. They help me visualize what I am working towards. I also use it as a form of manifesting.
History and Origins
You might not think of it as a vision board, but ancient Egyptians used hieroglyphics to help them picture what they wanted. They are also used in China, where they are called “dream boards.” They might not have realized it then, but they were manifesting what they wanted.
These days, we use them to help visualize our dreams and help us set goals. Oprah Winfrey and Steve Harvey are users of vision boards and encourage others to use them as well. Cardi B. and Katy Perry are also known to use vision boards.
Benefits of a Vision Board
So let's dig a little deeper into the benefits of using a vision board. There are a ton of benefits to be had.
Manifest Your Goals
Manifestation is a way to bring something you want into reality by using your thoughts, emotions, and intentions. Have you ever heard of The Law of Attraction? That book is all about how to get what you want into your life.
Visualization Techniques
When you are using your vision board to manifest what you want there are a few different things you can choose to do to help yourself, and visualizing is one of them.
Just by making a vision board is already helping you manifest everything you put on there.
Make a clear picture in your mind of yourself reaching that goal. The image you create should be as if you already have reached the goal or living whatever you are trying to manifest.
For example, one of the things I am manifesting is living in Scotland for a short period of time, longer than a vacation but shorter than forever, lol. When I am creating this visualization, I think like I am already living there. I see myself sitting with the local people, listening to all of the myths of the country. I can see the Scottish Highlands in the background and this gives me peace.
The trick is to make your images as clear as you possibly can.
How Vision Boards Help Manifest Desires
Once you know what you want to manifest, making a vision board is another great way to make your goals and dreams visual.
I have made both digital and physical vision boards. My preference is to make a physical one. While making one on Canva is easy, I find keeping it just in digital form isn't effective. I made one and added it as my log in screen. I barely glanced at it.
When I created a physical one, I was able to find images of what I dreamed of and I printed them out. I glued them to a piece of cards tock, laminated it, and put it in my planner, which I use several times a day.
Having my vision board in my face and in my hands several times a day always kept my aspirations in front of me.
Clarify Your Vision
Another great thing that vision boards help with is making sure you are crystal clear on what you want your goals to be.
Helping You Set Specific Goals
It helps to have your goals already created when you create your vision board, but if you don't, setting up your vision board will help you hone in on exactly what you want. For example, if you are dreaming of owning a boat, a picture of exactly what boat you want is much clearer to the Universe.
Bringing Clarity to Your Ambitions
Just like clear images of what you want are important, so too are your ambitions. As a teacher, I was very clear on what I wanted and what I didn't. I NEVER EVER wanted to go into administration.
I wanted to become a Reading Specialist. In order to do that, I needed to tell the Universe that I needed to go back to school to get a Master's Degree and extra courses to get my Reading Specialist Certification.
Motivation and Focus
As I mentioned above, my physical vision board was so much more helpful to me than a digital one.
Keeping You Inspired
When I was able to physically hold my vision board in my hands, I took the time to look at all the images and quotes. I got so excited about my trip to Scotland every time I saw the pictures of Edinburgh and Inverness on my board.
Staying Committed to Your Goals
Having my vision board in front of me all the time also reminded me of the commitment I made to myself when I created that vision board. It is hard to stay focused all the time. Life gets in the way sometimes, and we need a little extra kick to keep going.
It's important to keep in mind that a vision board is only helpful as we work for our goals. We can't create a vision board and then kiss it up to the Universe and expect to get what we want. We need to work towards getting what we want.
If you put being a CEO of a company on your board, there are steps you need to take to get there. You might need to get a Master's Degree, maybe you need to start your own company. Or maybe you need a new job that will put you closer to that CEO position.
It's just not going to happen if you don't focus on what you have to do.

Types of Vision Boards
There are 3 basic types of vision boards. A physical one, a digital one, and one I haven't mentioned yet, a hybrid one.
Physical Vision Boards
A physical board is something you can hold in your hands. You can touch it and see it whenever you want.
Some of the things you will need to create your physical vision board are:
- poster boards
- magazines and newspapers, or printed images from the internet
- scissors
- glue sticks
- markers and pens to write quotes on your board
- stickers, washi tape, or other types of things like journal cards
- personal photos of your family and other experiences if you want to add them
- quotes and affirmations that line up with your goal
- colored paper for backgrounds and such
- a notebook that you can write down your ideas, goals, and plans
You can make your vision board as clean and simple to bright and fun as you want. It's your vision board, so make it look like a reflection of you.
Steps to Create a Physical Board
Once you have gathered your materials and have your goals, now you get to put it together.
- First, set your intentions. Think about what you want to achieve for focus on. Dream big, you can make it anything you want
- Gather your supplies. Collect all the materials you want to use on your vision board. Use the list that I created to help you figure out what you want.
- Find and cut out the images and words. This is the fun part, looking at all the magazines you have to find images that will motivate and inspire you
- After you have all your images and quotes cut out, arrange them on your poster board. DO NOT GLUE YET. Make sure you have everything arranged the way you want it to be.
- After you have them all arranged, now you can glue them down.
- Last, add any personal touched you want to add, like writing in markers, adding washi tape or scrapbooking paper. Write some affirmations down on journal cards and add to your vision board.
- Display where you will see it all the time!
You should have something that is inspiring to you!.
Digital Vision Boards
If you are more of a digital person, have no fear, you can create your vision board online. It's really simple.
Here is my vision board for the fall. I want to manifest becoming a better tarot reader, I want to focus on my health, I want to improve my manifesting skills, and I want to start planning for my 6 months in the Highlands.
Advantages of Digital Format
There are some advantages of using a digital format for your vision board.
- They are super easy to edit and update. As you meet your goals and refine them, you can quickly make changes to your digital vision board. Change pictures, add new goas and rearrange your vision board as needed.
- Easy access. Since it is digital, you have almost instant access to it. You can look at on your phone, a tablet, or computer. Consider making it your image on your log in page on your computer or as a background on your phone.
- There are so many different templates to consider. I have created a fall themed template for you where you can add your own pictures and quotes.
- You could also add videos, audio clips and links to your vision board.
Recommended Apps and Software
There are many different softwares you can use to create your vision board. My favorite is Canva, and that is where I have my fall vision board templates that you can get.
If you are an Pinterest fan, make a new board and start adding things to your vision board.
Adobe Spark is a great choice if you are familiar with that product suite. I don't know that one, but it's great for some people
Maybe PowerPoint or Google Slides is for you. I am a Google girl, so if I was going to use a slide option I would pick that. It is so easy to use, and it's free!
Steps to Create a Digital Board
The steps to making a digital vision board are similar to making a physical one.
- Set your intentions. What is it that you have always wanted? Maybe you want to improve your health or become a tarot reader!
- Choose a platform. Which will it be? Canva, Pinterest, Adobe, Google? Just make sure you choose one you are most comfortable with. This process should NOT be stressful!
- Find your digital assets. You can add quotes, images, or graphics that will help you stay focused. I have used images from Unsplash or Pixabay. They are free image resources, and the pictures are incredible. You can also just use Google and do an image search.
- Create your layout. You can create one from scratch, or use a template, like the one I have created.
- Customize and finalize. This is where you can add text, like affirmations, or labels and backgrounds. It should reflect your style and energy.
- Once you are happy with what you have, export it to your computer or phone. Then you can set it as a wallpaper on your computer, screen saver, or print it out so you have it in a physical form.

Hybrid Vision Boards
Creating a hybrid vision board gives you the best of both worlds. You can use physical and digital elements to make it unique to you.
Combining Physical and Digital Elements
Here is a quick way to make a hybrid vision board.
- Start with a base. Use a poster board or a cork board to get started. You will be able to hang it somewhere you will see it every day.
- Instead of using magazines, you can gather images, quotes and affirmation online. Then you can print them out. Make sure to use nice paper to make the pictures stand out.
- Add personal touches like personal pictures, little notes you have written to yourself, or postcards of places you want to go.
- Use the images you printed to make a digital version as well. Use any of the resources I have already mentioned.
- Use markers, stickers and washi tape to make your board reflect yourself. Maybe you will use washi tape to stick your pictures onto your vision board. You could also mount your pictures on scrapbooking paper for another fun idea.
Best Practices for a Hybrid Approach
Here are some extra tips to help you use your hybrid vision board.
- Keep it where you can see it every day. Hang it in your office or bedroom where it is easy to see.
- Update your vision boards as needed. Change things up if you feel like your vision board is feeling a little stale. It will keep you motivated.
- Stay organized. Set up places to keep your supplies and digital files neat and tidy. Make a folder to keep your vision board. Then add new pictures when you see something that makes you feel good.
- Have fun! Making your vision board should be fun and creative! This is one place where you can make it all about you!
FAQs
Whenever you have reached a goal, you should update your vision board. You can do it sooner if you want. Sometimes looking at the same thing every day is boring, so you can change things to spice it up a little bit.
If you want to create a vision board for each goal, that is good. Just be careful to limit your goals to 1-3. If you have more than that you spread yourself too thin, and you won't get as much accomplished.
Wrapping up
Creating a vision board can be a creative and motivational endeavor. It's definitely worth putting some time and effort into if you are serious about reaching your goal. Vision boards will keep focused and on task while you are working towards your best life! I highly suggest trying one out.
