When The High Priestess tarot card shows up in a reading, I think about the moon, The moon symbolizes intuition and deep feelings.
Moon Symbolism and Spiritual Journey
There are usually 2 different moons that can show up on The High Priestess card, depending on the deck you use. There is the crescent moon, which symbolizes the beginning of a spiritual journey. It means that I am developing my intuition. The full moon, on the other hand, can mean that you have finished one part of your journey. They are both spiritual moons, and are connected to my subconscious thoughts and intuition.

When The High Priestess appears to me in an upright position, it means that it is important, almost like you have to pay attention and trust your intuition. Listening to my gut instincts and intuition are so important. Don't ignore your intuition, it is a sign from the universe and it is meant to help you. It is telling you to trust yourself. The High Priestess in Various Contexts
When I draw The High Priestess card, I see it as a call to look inward across different parts of life. Here, I share my insights on how The High Priestess influences different areas of our lives.
Love Life Insights
In a love context, The High Priestess often nudges me toward listening closely to my gut feelings. It's crucial to trust my own intuition when navigating the complexities of relationships.
- When I'm single: Listen to my inner voice to discern if someone's energy complements mine.
- When I'm in a relationship: Reflect not only on what is said in a relationship, but also what is unsaid. The unsaid often gives more information about what is happening than what is said. It reminds me to use my intuition about my relationship with my partner.
Guidance for Work and Career
In terms of work context and career decisions, The High Priestess tells me to apply common sense to the intuitive hints I receive.
- Decision making: Rely on a blend of intuition and rational thought when looking at career choices.
- Problem-solving: Trust that my subconscious mind may hold the answers to workplace challenges.
Health Concerns and Well-Being
When considering health concerns within the health context, The High Priestess reminds me to tap into my body’s inner knowledge.
- Physical health: Make sure you are paying attention to the clues your body is giving you. They might indicate the need for change in lifestyle or medical attention.
- Mental well-being: Acknowledge and explore my emotions for a clearer understanding of my mental health state. Don't let your emotions get so big that they rule you.
Financial Situations and Money Matters
When looking into my financial situation and money matters, The High Priestess card suggests a careful balance between intuition and reality.
- Budgeting: No one likes budgeting, including me. However, it is important to consider what I spend money on, and what I save. Using my intuition usually helps. You know the times when you are at the register, and you look at your friend and say, “I shouldn't buy this.” That is telling you, and your friend what your intuition is saying. I imagine all the money I could have saved if I had just listened. Now I do listen, and I am saving a ton of money.
- Investments and large purchases: I am not a financial advisor. All I can say is when I am making big decisions like whether to liquidate my pension, or buy a second home, I always consider all perspectives and what my intuition is telling me.

Harnessing Inner Wisdom and Intuition
In my journey through tarot, I've found that the High Priestess card reminds me to slow down and listen to what my intuition and wisdom is telling me.
Connecting with Your Subconscious Mind
When I encounter the High Priestess in a reading, I know I need to connect with my subconscious thoughts. Sometimes it isn't easy to do this so these are a few ways that I can settle in and listen.
Create a peaceful space: To hear my inner voice, I get rid distractions. A calm, comfortable setting—is ideal.
- Tip: Nature sounds or soft instrumental music can help get you into a calm spot.
Meditation and mindfulness: These practices help me focus internally. By concentrating on my breath or a mantra, I effectively quiet the noise from my conscious mind and allow my subconscious thoughts to surface.
- Example: I might use a visualization technique, imagining myself floating in the water at the beach. The waves are calm and soothing and the sun on my body makes me relax to a point where I am open to the universe.
Spend some time outside: I notice when I am outside a feeling of calmness comes over me. I listen to the birds and the wind in the trees. I feel myself relax as I am listening and observing nature. I know it's hard in the city, If you can't listen to the sounds of nature, you could take a walk.
These are the things I have found helpful to get into a place where I can do a reading and be open to everything the cards are telling me.
Reversed High Priestess Tarot Card
In my experience with the Tarot, when the High Priestess appears in a reversed position, it often means I am not listening to my intuition and wisdom.
Challenges
When I have the Reversed High Priestess in a spread, it could mean there are some challenges I need to look at.
- Blocked Intuition: A feeling that my inner voice is muffled or inaccessible.
- Secrets Exposed: Hidden matters might surface unexpectedly, creating discomfort or drama.
- Lack of Inner Harmony: There's a struggle to maintain peace and balance within myself.
- Over-reliance on Logic: A tendency to dismiss intuitive insights and rely solely on rational thought.
Reconnection
To address the setbacks indicated by the Reversed High Priestess, I recommend a few things that help me reconnect, and they look a lot like some of the recommendations I have already given for other things.
- Meditation: Meditating regularly helps quiet your mind and helps you to listen to your intuition and subconscious. Meditation is good for so many different thing! I often do it when I am feeling anxious. It helps bring me back to myself and allows space between my thoughts and my feelings.
- Trusting My Gut: Learning to take note of and trust gut feelings in decision-making processes. There is a book called “The Gift of Fear : Survival Signals That Protect Us from Violence” that I think about a lot. It's about using your intuition to sense danger. It's an oldie but a goodie. One of the things the author, Gavin De Becker, keeps coming back to is the importance of trusting your gut. If something feels off, it's your intuition telling you that something isn't right.
- Reflecting on Dreams: Dreams can often provide insights that you might be overlooking when awake.
By patiently working through these steps, I can tap back into the wisdom that the High Priestess embodies, even when she's reversed in a reading.
Whenever I'm doing a tarot reading and the High Priestess card shows up, I always feel like it's bringing something important to the table. This card really speaks to intuition and the potential that's waiting to be discovered. From what I've noticed, its appearance is kind of a wake up call for the person I'm reading for to really listen to that inner voice and to look a little deeper than the surface.
For me, in my own spiritual journey, the High Priestess is a gentle reminder about the interplay between our conscious minds and the stuff we've got bubbling away underneath. I taking a moment to really dive deep inside, to see if there is something below the surface. It's usually a hint that I need to slow down and take a look.
What's interesting about the High Priestess is that it's not about rushing into action. It's more about sitting back, reflecting, and being patient. When this card pops up, it's often a sign to just let things unfold as they will, to be in this space where you're open to what's coming but not pushing for it. It symbolizes this doorway to the things we can't quite see yet and highlights how important it is to trust in what we feel, even if we can't see it all just yet.
